An Invitation: Walk to Ban Assault Weapons

Friends, neighbors, all concerned:

PLEASE COME, WALK IN QUIET REFLECTION, TOGETHER IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION TO BAN THE SALE OF ASSAULT WEAPONS AND FOR UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS WHEN PURCHASING FIREARMS

So many folks are expressing dismay in not knowing how to respond to the continued mass shootings that have taken place and continue to threaten the lives of friends, family, children. Quiet, isolated, private dismay is not enough. Nor are violent protests an appropriate reaction.

This invitation to walk with other concerned friends, neighbors and area citizens is admittedly a very small gesture. Small, however, does not equal insignificant. There are so many important issues and causes needing to be addressed. It’s easy to let ourselves become overwhelmed and discouraged, thinking that our small efforts cannot really have an impact. Once we give into that and become passive in the face of so many challenges we ourselves become part of the problem. By choosing this one issue to focus upon in face of so many mass shootings, we may, even in small ways, become active participants  in more life enhancing solutions. Just to be part of such a movement may, in itself, be rewarding.

If possible, create a basic sign to carry simply expressing “in support of legislation eliminating the sale of assault weapons and for universal background checks” or your own wording for that focus.

Please share this invitation with others seeking ways to find a voice in expressing concern in a peaceful and more public way. Personally invite a friend! Post this information wherever you can.

Thanks for your participation and support. Whatever we may do to make the lives of

those we care about more safe and secure is well worth the effort. WE LOOK FORWARD TO WALKING WITH YOU!

August 5, 10:00 AM

Our next monthly walk will take place on Saturday, August 5 from 10:00 to 11:15 AM.

We will begin our walk along IN 933 at the edge of Saint Mary’s Campus. The Inn at

Saint Mary’s has given us the okay to park in their back lot, just a few yards from our

starting point.
