COURSE OFFERINGS/DESCRIPTIONS

#101 Saturday, 9-5 p.m. - Robert Ludwig
Promise and Hope: God's Future, Pluperfect

The word "pluperfect" derives from the Latin plus quam perfectum, "more than perfect" - the Latin perfect refers to something that occurred in the past, while the pluperfect refers to something that occurred "more" (further) in the past than the perfect. In this session, we will visit Scripture (both Old and New Testaments), the theological tradition, and contemporary spiritualities - exploring the experience of hope, grounded in our faith in a God who makes promises and ignites hope where there had been none.

#102 Sunday, 1-8:30 p.m. - Jack Shea
Stories of Spiritual Wisdom

In the spiritual traditions of the world storytelling has always been placed in the service of spiritual development. From earliest times spiritual teachers have crafted stories to evoke Spirit and introduce people into the subtle dynamics of the spiritual life. Although the stories are historically conditioned and rife with the assumptions and conflicts of the times in which they were written, they are still able to express and communicate spiritual wisdom. In short, they may come from the past but they belong to all times. These stories are an inheritance, a rich resource for current and future spiritual development. We will tell and explore stories from Jewish, Christian, Sufi, Buddhist, Hindu, and native American traditions.

#103 Monday, 9-4 p.m. - Edwina Gateley
Call to Personal and Global Transformation

In the midst of our violent and hurting world we will explore our call to believe in new possibilities and birth hope and healing in our times. Through Scripture and contemporary stories we will come to understand more deeply how God as Lover and Healer ever invites us to be open to the Spirit of Wisdom and Her perennial invitation to personal and global transformation.

#104 Tuesday, 9-5 p.m., Wednesday, 9-12 p.m. - Diarmuid O'Murchu
Empowering Spirituality for the 21st Century

Based on his book, In the Beginning was the Spirit, Diarmuid O'Murchu will explore how the revival of indigenous and earth-focused spirituality can enrich and empower the spiritual awakening that characterizes our time.

#105 Wednesday, 2-5:30 p.m., Thursday, 9-4 p.m. - Camilla Burns
Wisdom: The Tree of Life

The Wisdom Tradition in the Old Testament offers a different perspective from the customary approach of Biblical Salvation History. The authors wrestle with understanding God through their human experiences. We will look at Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiates, Sirach, Wisdom of Solomon and their influence in the New Testament.

#106 Friday, 9-4:30 p.m., Saturday, 9-12 p.m. - John Dominic Crossan
The Character of the Biblical God: Toward a Christian Vision of the Christian Bible

The full story of the Christian Bible depicts a God of both non-violent distributive justice and violent retributive justice. That bi-polar trait is also true of the biblical Christ who rides non-violently on a donkey in Gospel but violently on a horse in Revelation. To read the Christian Bible and remain a Christian invites this conclusion: the norm of the Christian Bible is the biblical Christ but the norm of the biblical Christ is the historical Jesus.
